NEWFA U16's Final proves to be a thriller

Written by The North East Welsh FA, June 18, 2019

Hawarden Rangers took the U16 NEWFA Cup in what was a thrilling final.  Opponents Mynydd Isa took a 2-0 lead and with just 20 minutes to go looked like the trophy would be decked in yellow ribbons.  However a 5 minute period just after the hour saw Hawarden score three in quick succession.  This stunned the players and the crowd as the match was played in the pouring rain, but this did not detract from what was a very entertaining game.  Hawarden grabbed a fourth with six minutes to go, but Mynydd Isa made for a grandstand finish scoring with two minutes to go. The final moments of the game were franctic with Hawarden holding on and Mynydd Isa straining for an equaliser.  Credit should go to both teams for a great game, but congratulations to Hawarden Rangers who did eventually take the title.
